Kicking off the new year with three exciting events

In January we had our first AGM with the new members we welcomed in our T1 investment round. Good to see so many friendly faces could make it along. We are very pleased to re-welcome Marea Fatseas to the board after the hiatus she took to run in the ACT elections. We also would like to extend our thanks to Bob Clark who has resigned from the board for personal reasons. Bob has been instrumental in establishing the governance of SolarShare will be missed.

You can access SolarShare’s annual report presented at the AGM for the period ending 30th June 2016 at this link. (http://67.227.186.28/~solarshare/about/annual-reporting/)

Event: How Denmark’s Samsø became the World’s first 100% Renewable Energy Island

In 1997, Samsø Island won a government competition to become a model renewable energy community. Now 100% of its electricity comes from wind power and biomass. 75% of its heat comes from solar power and biomass energy. By 2030, the island is aiming to have no reliance on fossil fuels.

Søren Hermansen, Director of Samsø’s Energy Academy, Gothenburg Prize winner and mastermind behind the transformation of Samsø will talk about how the people of Samsø transformed their Island within 10 years.

Lawrence McIntosh from SolarShare will join the discussion panel with Shane Rattenbury, MLA, ACT Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, and Liz Veitch the Executive Director of SERREE.

Location: ANU Finkle theatre, John Curtin School of Medical Research
