Divest fest
The 14th of February was Valentines day and the good folks at 350.org organised an outing to help us break up with fossil fuels.

We had a number of people drop by our SolarShare stall and talk to us about the other side of divesting: investing in a more sustainable future. There was also a great panel discussion with Dr Angus Finlay from ANU and Peter and Kim Martin from the Southern Highlands Coal Action Group. We covered the health impacts both real and perceived of fossil fuels and of renewable energy and heard some experiences from Peter and Kim on how coal has been impacting their community.
Royalla residents evening
There are many communities within the ACT and we’ve been working hard to engage with all of them who are nearby to possible SolarShare sites.

On the 18th of Feb I went down to visit some members of the Royalla community on their experiences of the Royalla Solar farm. It’s been a long process for the residents down here and it sounds like the 20MW project at Royalla could really have done with some more community engagement right through the process. We were happy to learn that the residents support the concept of community owned solar however we’ve decided to focus on other areas for our site selection.
